Project & Activities

The Centre undertakes policy research and organises events with the view to produce recommendations that assist ASEAN improve its capabilities, strengthen its institutions and enhance regional cooperation. Projects and activities thus support the Centre's mission to asist the ASEAN community realise the vision of an integrated and vibrant region.

Most of the Centre's projects are in the form of seminars, workshops and conferences. The Centre also organises events with its partners on topics related to Southeast Asia and ASEAN cooperation. Since 2009, Centre personnel have conducted training-of-trainers on the ASEAN Charter for officials of the ASEAN member states and ASEAN Secretariat officers.

Best Practices in Urban Development:  Experiences from Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is urbanising rapidly, with almost 250 million people (more than 40% of the region's total population) living in urban areas.  This half-day seminar involved practitioners from around the region sharing their experiences of good practices in urban development.  It also included the book launch for "Urbanisation in Southeast Asia:  Issues and Impacts", jointly published by the Centre for Liveable Cities and the ASEAN Studies Centre. 

 

Reporting Development in ASEAN

ASEAN Roundtable 2012:  Examining the ASEAN Economic Community Scorecard

The ASEAN Studies Centre at ISEAS, together with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung covened the ASEAN Roundtable 2012 on 25 May 2012.  The subject of the roundtable discussions was an examination of the ASEAN Economic Community Scorecard with the key objectives to:

  1. Evaluate the current status of and the progress towards the AEC milestones and
  2. Assess the policy reforms necessary to meet the end-goals

 

EU-ASEAN Prospects

Southeast Asia Launch of ILO Global Employment Trends Report 2012

On 21 March 2012, the ASEAN Studies Centre (ASC) at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) assisted the International Labour Organisation (ILO) with its Southeast Asia Launch of the ILO Global Employment Trends 2012 report on the state of the global labour market.  Mr Steven Kapsos from the ILO global headquarters in Geneva and Phu Huynh from the ILO regional office in Bangkok presented the findings of the report and ISEAS' Dr Aekapol Chongvialaivan and ASC's Ms Moe Thuzar were the discussants.  Mr Rodolfo Severino, ASC Head chaired the proceedings.
